Line Quality.
Lately I have been drawing painlessly.
A quick way for drawing a single black/white image on a page.In my spare time, I did one of those quick pictures - quickcacs are what I call them:
Hmmmm, Good likeness. I enjoyed calmly making the picture without a predraw. Just do it.
But could it be better? I traced my original picture. Slower. LoveLy. Sweeter line quality:
It takes longer. People like me to draw fast when they're standing there.
But sometimes, once in a while, I can make the picture prettier. With lovely Line Quality. |

Do you recognize this face?
I've been looking at it for at least a month,
an hour at a time,
when I sit on the LIRR (Long Island RailRoad).
She's on big posters that say
"Win the Jackpot. Empire City. Yonkers Raceway."

Spent a lot of time on the subway today.
I scribble out my ideas of the people that I see there,
then I ink them in when I'm off the bouncey bouncey subwheeee!
What a great section of humanity we see on the subway.
A veritable smorgasbord of faces.
Here are some:

(Ooops - I think I used the same names for different pictures
in this blog - things like subway1 and subway2.
Previous pictures may have been deleted and changed to
repeats of these current pictures
elsewhere in this blog.
Because of having the same name.
But I don't know where, what year even,
that I used the same name. Ooops.) |

THANK GOODNESS FOR HANDS-FREE PHONE OPERATION !!!
I just drew these pictures while talking on the phone with my friend.
I was drawing from photos that I found on the Computer:

I usually prefer to draw people in person.
But I really wanted to draw alone after today's party.
Because I made a mistake at the party.
I didn't take charge of my setting.
When I have to, I can draw in a small space,
but I prefer more distance between me and my subject.
A lovely little niche had been set up for me today,
so I didn't think of moving it.
But there had been plenty of space to move my table out into the middle of the room this time.
Dang. Tight drawing in a tight space.
I needed this relaxation time when I got home.
To be able to draw in such a relaxed way.
Technology - YAY!
And as usual, there are more pictures here than I have time to scan.
But I'll show you one more thing I do.
Here's a picture of a girl holding a Caricature Balloon.
Sometimes, if the venue needs it, I'll draw on balloons too.
Or even get the kids enjoying the peaceful pace of floating their Caricature Balloons
through the air:

Me again. Still waiting to get my website fixed
because some people say it takes too long to come up on their Computers.
But I'm posting pictures again anyway. There's just so much stuff that I
want to show.
Here are 2 pictures I just made from pictures on the web.
Because I'm dreaming about tomorrow's party.
It's after midnight! I should be dreaming while sleeping!
But anyway, here I am. And here are some pictures of little kids -
tomorrow will be a one-year-old's party:

I'm back ~ ~
But as usually happens, it's hard to find the time to do the things I didn't do 'yesterday'.
How could I have thought that I could do all the things I want to do today AS WELL AS things I wish I did in the
past? It takes 24-hours to live today's day.
So, I don't have time to post the pictures that I have piled up here
(mentioned in my previous post of March 31).
But I will show you what I was doing today.
I surprised myself that I liked today's pictures.
I used hatched lines for shading.
I hadn't done that since I was in High School.
I still prefer the gray marker (especially for party use when speed is desireable),
but I did like today's hatched style - using only black marker.
I figure that I could switch to this style if I want to change my style mid-party.
Gray shading or cross-hatch shading - they're similar enough to be able to use them both at the same party.
Here's a sample of the cross-hatch style:

BTW, the picture drawn above was from a
Mugshot
that I found on the web.
That's why the girl seems so stressed.
Mugshots are good sources for practicing - because the models aren't all made up and posed.
But people just aren't as happy when a mugshot is being taken
than when they're at one of my Parties. |
