There's so much going on with the Face Painters in Central Park
that I thought I'd get an edge by including Caricatures.
But there's only one spot with any sort of shade,
and I'm not usually the one who gets it.
And it's so unpleasant to try to keep those sweaty
color-sticks usable in the sun.

So I remembered the recent work I did for the M&M's company.
Posted here on this blog 7/5/08. Bright Colors! Done with Markers.
Instead of the beautiful Color-Stick-Mixes that I usually use.
I decided to make regular Caricatures using Markers only when I'm in Central Park.

And that meant
New Samples.
Once again, back to the drawing Broad.

Here's what I made:

Good? Well, I was thrilled with them. Thinking of using them all the time now.
And before I even walked out of the store where they were being laminated,
I got a call from my friend Elgin. Another Caricature artist. And what's he
talking about, but a new Color Scheme (with the Color Sticks that we usually use)
that he says is just fantastic. Start with the darks, a brownish and a pinkish,
then add the peach....And then,

I went online just messing around. Free time. Looking at pictures.
And I see a fabulous way to color eyeglasses with blue and green stripes of color sticks.
i could figure out how to do that with the Markers, but that gets me away
from the Simplicity that I wanted to use the Markers for.

It never ends. New ideas. New pictures. More choices.
I'm never finished. Maybe I'll sleep when I'm dead?

But I had noticed Elaine before she spoke to me. I thought she was a stranger
as I had passed Elaine as I walked up a ramp to get in to the diner. She had been
helping a man in a wheelchair (with a breathing tank). While I ate my dinner, Elaine
barely had a bite. She was busy relating to the man she was with. Encouraging him,
reading the newspaper to him....Just being delightful.

Since I had made a comment about being famous when Elaine recognized me,
watching her made me think about all the Unsung Heroes in this world.
The people who uplift others, who tell a stranger how special she is,
who kindly help people who are in their lives. People who seem to exist
just to admire and appreciate others. I'm so impressed with the Elaines of this world.

BTW, here's a picture of another boy I had drawn in the diner that day.
A stranger. I liked his confident attitude. He too might have been one of
the strengths of this world. Who knows? I just love people:

I was told that this would be displayed at a wedding - and they wanted
an Oriental theme - and the color scheme-red. Okay. I'll do something. Ummmmm.
This is what real Artwork is about. Each picture that's another Challenge
brings the Artist up a notch. I bought red cardstock and drew the
picture with a Silver Sharpie:

Uh-oh. What if that wouldn't be appropriate to display?

I decided to make it a surprise just for the insiders.
And I drew the following picture on the other side of the
same Foamcore board. It was white. I used the few colored
Chartpaks that I had here.

Whew. I met the deadline.

The picture came out fantastic!
It was based on a photo of a very angry man.
The first thing I drew was the Nose,
and I noticed how very narrow it was at the top.
And his eyebrows were pointing in toward the nose
and:

I ended up drawing a Star! Right between the eyes.

Although I do prefer to exaggerate
to emphasize the real likeness,
these feelings were kicked off about this person because
she really did look like this.
This picture was not an exaggeration.
At least, I don't think so.
What's happening with my mind???

I put the Clown's contact information on the bottom. And they give them out with crayons at their parties.

And I've also started making personalized Coloring Books for Everybody!
