I was just surfing around the web
to look at pictures.
I found some pictures of those old dramatic silent-film stars.
Here I drew Vilma Banky:

I like seeing the old concepts of beauty - from before mass media

gave us the parameters from which we could consciously deviate.

I have months worth of pictures sitting here on this desk
to show you. I didn't find time to post while I was drawing so many pictures!

But this is a new day. I'm interested in what I did today.
So once again, instead of posting the pictures that I didn't get around to posting,
I'm doing something else.
I want to show you some drawings I handled today.

This first one was based on an 'S' design. I redrew the picture today
based on a picture I drew last week.
I was playing with a fun way of applying colors.
Vibrant!

Here's the photo I with the original picture:

The next one is a lady I saw while I was standing on line in Office Max.
Such a long line, and all I was doing was buying paper.
I looked at the woman with the dour expression, and wondered what she looked like when she was a little girl. She probably never intended to look like this.
What happens to us? What makes us become what we become?

And the last picture I'm going to show you today
is a cartoon I made at home. Just having fun with a photo I have here.

Hi Readers!
I've been thinking of you - I have piles and piles of pictures to show you.
But you can imagine that it gets hard to scan them all in
in additon to all the gigs I do.

I'm tired now, but took a moment to show you at least a few Face Paintings that I recently did in Central Park.

To make sure I'm not late, I usually arrive early to my gigs.
So I use that time to study/warm-up/rehearse, whatever you want to call it.

You know I've been studying emotions, So you'll understand what I was doing
when I was playing with a picture that my friend Elgin Bolling drew:

Not really caring if it was exact, I drew the following copy. Just to look at this character. (Elgin is a master Character Designer.):

Then, I imposed some emotions that I've been studying onto Elgin's character. Here's what I drew:

Smiling:

Guilty:

Laughing (I was particularly happy with this one because I designed the teeth for this guy from my imagination:

Aloof:

Conniving:

Then, tired of THAT FACE, I looked at pictures of some models that I had printed out from the web.
I chose this girl because she had a sexy look. It's something a little different than the character that had invaded my mind:

Even though I was studying 3-dimensionality when I drew him 2 days ago,
the drawing can't help but touch on expression and shading too.

So thinking that I prefer drawing dark-toned skin on brown paper (so the midtone is automatically shaded),
I was concerned. At gigs where I've promised 11x17 cardstock,
taking out 9x12 brown paper might not be acceptible.
But I'm just not satisfied with the flat gray marker tone when I'm interested in quickly noting 3-dimensionality.

So I drew him again tonight. Yeow, this guy is getting stretched out.
And I'm plenty satisfied with the tone of his skin - simply indicated with the indigo color-stick.
