Today, I was doing some of the prep work that has to be done behind the scenes as a Caricaturist/Face-Painter.

You wouldn't want to see the filing and the calls and the mail that's involved. But the pictures! They're Fun!

One of the things I did was to prepare three new pictures as samples. I was thinking that I needed more cute or bright
eye-grabbing samples. Things that I put on my easel to let people know what I do.
Here they are:

Then, I tried out a new Face Painting design. A Strawberry!

I had a great time last night!
(and now my litl baby is going far away....)

I had gone to Hanks Saloon after yesterday's gig (5-year-old pool party)
to see Bobcat
play with the Arkhams
and the Black Market Band
- they're great! So much energy! So much fun! If I could, I'd go all the time - I've known the Bobcat since he was a kid, and I've always been amazed by him. He's so extroverted and friendly. The Bobcat has really been a phenomenal guitarist since he was a kid, and his talents have surprisingly grown even from that point. How good can a person get??

(Some people are just naturally extroverted entertainers.)

Since he's going away away on tour today, he got me to stay out real late last night, So I finally saw his friends Sasquatdch and the Sickabillies.

You had to see Sasquatch (Dave) to believe it.
I tried to draw his picture

while I was standing in walltowall people
dancing in the HOT dark bar.
I felt the energy from his outrageous show, and actually loosened up. No predraw, I drew Sasquatch Live.

Then, this morning, I extrapolated the Sasquatch that I drew in color.

He does outrageous things with his
face,

eyes,
and tongue
in addition to his great songs
(Hayawah, Hayaway, Hell or a Heaven)
(1984)
and pivoting turns with his guitart.
Even his base player climbs on the upright base and balances on it while playing. Between the bands and the outrageous audience, that was THE place to be. (Aaron's going to have so much fun. The Black Market Band is touring WITH Sasquatch now.)

I was mesmorized by his PERFORMANCE. He really knows what it is to be a PERFORMER. To keep people's attention.

At the end of a 2-party day, I mentioned to my wonderful client that I wished I'd've brougt my camera to photograph some of the pictures I'd drawn. She took charge, put up the pictures of the children that were still at the party (they're in plastic bags), and sent me this photo:

Here a closeup of some of the pictures:

Playing around with gags. I drew myself in my bird's cage. Glad I keep his door open.

It's almost cathartic to draw pictures of the things I think of. I think I'm ready to come out and really Fly now!

Look at what I saw while standing on line in the supermarket today! Quick - get down some lines! Mostly how that hair sits on THAT FOREHEAD! Glad I had one of those colorful pencils Ive been into lately.

Most of my colorful blue pencil doesn't show up in the picture I'm posting here, though. Because I used the sketch to try out something new (for me) when I got back to the studio.

I'd been thinking of using MARKERS at gigs. For more saturated/bright colors. So I tried it on the sketch that I had brought home.
It worked! I love it.
But I had to combine my old medium (color sticks) with the markers. Because most of my markers are dark colors.
I like this mixed media approach. It takes the best of both mediums: the bright intensity of the markers AND the subtle beauty of the color sticks.

Whew 1:00 a.m., and I finally finished the simple Caricature that I designed for an upcoming event. My client wanted to get a Studio Caricature to print on t-shirts before I show up to do the regular Caricatures. Since I have actually drawn directly onto t-shirts, I know that simple lines looks better on t-shirts. Almost Poster pictures.
So this is what I drew:
