I meet some of the most creative people!
Last night I worked at an unusual event -
Instead of Caricatures, my client asked me to draw
'Fashion Sketches'. What she meant by that
was that she wanted me to draw little heads
with long flowy bodies (instead of the usual big head, small body Party Caricature).
She told me to bring some pictures of sample fashions,
let the guests choose what they wanted to be wearing,
and then draw THAT.
Before I accepted the job, I checked to see if it would work.
It was a good thing that I was just recently inspired (see entry of 6/3/06) to
draw some simple faces. Because that's all there was room for on these small faces.
Here are some practice pictures that I drew before the
Fashion Sketch gig:

I hope today's pictures show up well on-line. It's just stuff that I drew on
scrap paper. Scanned them, and then had to delete all the personal notes and
things that kinda grew around them.
What happened was this. I was drawing with my friend (Elgin Bolling), and decided
to copy a simple doodle that came out of him. Here is my copy (He says it's okay for me
to post it. It's good to draw with good friends.):

It was so simple - loosened me up and seemed a quick way to draw - might be useful
sometimes at parties. So when I got home, I tried it out. Drew the following
samples - also on scrap paper - not meaning to show them to anyone.
But, funny, I talk to myself here as much as I talk to you.
I'll probably benefit to be reminded of what I was thinking/drawing today.
There's so many different ways I approach this work. I gotta be my own 'coach'.

I've been overbooked these days - having a blast! I took some photos at some of my gigs. I'll upload some
another day, but for now I want to see how this drawing looks on-line.
I drew it in my spare time, and I like something about it.
Very geomtric. Reminds me of Bridgeman stuff.

I'll be drawing at a Senior Banquet tonight. And one of my jobs this weekend is at a High School Prom.
So I've been thinking - couples. I prefer to put one person on a page. But I know that couples
are going to be expected at these gigs. And what do I do in that case? Practice! That's right.
Learn my lines before the show.
This afternoon, I drew some couples
based on pictures that were posted on the web.
I used to agonize over COMPOSITION,
but my friend told me that he draws one person, even body and shading,
one person COMPLETE
before he even starts on the 2nd person.
I decided to try that. And it worked! It's much easier to pull off at a gig.
Here's what I came up with. The 2 people in a heart is the easiest. Looks better, too
So I hope it works out that I will be able to rely on that at the gig.
Here are some of the pictures I drew while practicing:

Those digital cameras sure do make it more tempting to take photos.
I've been taking it around to some of my gigs lately.
Got a slew of photos here.
Today I'd like to post some of the pictures that I took at yesterday's Communion:

I have been working all week at Locust Valley High School.
For several years, I have been the artist there - I draw the whole graduating class.
This year, one of the students gave me an extra job to do back at my Studio.
I was to draw a Caricature that he wanted to use as a Party Invitation.
Here's what I drew:
